About Piroska Nagy-Mohacsi

Piroska Nagy-Mohacsi is a British and Hungarian citizen whose experience as a macroeconomist has cemented her as an industry leader within the arena of technology, finance, innovation, financial crisis management, and education.

With demonstrated skill in Financial Resilience, Digital Currencies, and Monetary and Fiscal Policy, Piroska Nagy-Mohacsi is currently working with the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she’s been for the past six years. She joined the School in 2015 as Programme Director for the Institute for Global Affairs, where she was responsible for managing numerous global policy initiatives as well as setting up the Eurasia centre and INet hub for the Institute. In September  2020, she stepped into the role of Interim Director, and in June 2021, she moved into her current role as a Visiting Professor with the School. 

Additionally, in her career, Piroska Nagy-Mohacsi has worked as Policy Director for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), where she worked on Country Strategy and Policy at the Office of the Chief Economist in London. She’s also worked with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as Division Chief for more than 22 years out of Washington, D.C. Piroska has also held positions with the National Bank of Hungary in Budapest, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel, and Fitch Ratings in London. 

In conjunction with her professional work, Piroska Nagy-Mohacsi also serves as a Student and Diversity Mentor for LSE, EBRD, and IMF. She holds memberships with the editorial board of the “Finance and Development” journal in Washington, D.C., as well as the BIS Committee on Remittances, where she has also co-authored the Committee’s report. 

Piroska Nagy-Mohacsi has also authored numerous articles and books throughout her career. She was published in VoxEU, both with her articles, “Populism and Time Inconsistency” and “Cryptocurrencies Challenge the Status Quo.” Piroska also has been published with Project Syndicate twice, the LSE Research Paper Series, and the Financial Times. In terms of books, alongside her highly regarded account of the fall of the Soviet Union in “The Meltdown of the Russian State,” published in 2000, she was the editor and co-author of “New Policy Paradign for the Post-COVID World,” which was published in February 2021. Piroska has also been included as a panelist of speaker for a variety of events, including the “Planning for the Post-COVID world: central bank policies in emerging economies” event, which took place in October 2021. Most recently, she was one of the leaders to sign a letter to the G20 leaders regarding the inequitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Alongside a robust and proven career in finance and academia, Piroska Nagy-Mohacsi is married and enjoys a beautiful life with her spouse and three children. She likes to spend her time engaged in one of her many hobbies. As a former member of the Hungarian national swimming team, she loves to spend time in the pool doing laps. Beyond her love for reading and live theater, Piroska is also currently learning the accordion.
